Bariatric Resources for Medical Professionals
We understand the importance of well-educated patients and their primary physicians in the long-term success of weight loss surgery. As one of the leading bariatric centers in the country, we are committed to providing primary care physicians, physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff with the informative bariatric resources they need to care for their overweight and obese patients.
To assist both medical practitioners and their patients, we’ve compiled an extensive collection of bariatric resources in the form of journal articles, news items and Internet links that include the latest research related to the medical management of obesity through bariatric surgeries such as LAP-BAND, gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve.

Comprehensive Pre and Post-Operative Bariatric Care Services
We also understand that obesity is a complex condition, and that the effective treatment of obesity often requires bariatric resources that are either unavailable, or difficult to access, through the traditional primary care model of medical service. Here at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital, our Metabolic & Bariatric surgery team includes certified medical professionals and support staff who have successfully completed advanced-level training in the treatment of bariatric patients.
When you refer your patient to our surgical weight loss program, both you and your patient will enjoy access to our team of specialized dieticians, clinical psychologists, behavioral health therapists, mid-level practitioners and certified bariatric nurses to ensure that your patient is both well-suited for bariatric surgery, and that they have the support they need to achieve the best possible long-term outcomes from the procedure.
World-Class Bariatric Surgical Clinicians
Our team of bariatric surgeons are all leaders in their chosen field. Each of our doctors are both passionate advocates for the advancement of health care services for patients who struggle with obesity and comorbid conditions, and highly skilled clinicians who provide ongoing training to fellow surgeons and physicians both here in the United States and abroad.
Led by Dr. Kelvin Higa, M.D., F.A.C.S., our bariatric surgical team includes Dr. Keith Boone, M.D., F.A.C.S.; Dr. Daniel E. Swartz, M.D., F.A.C.S; and Dr. Pearl Ma, M.D., all of whom have undergone extensive training in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques. Each of our surgeons are active in the medical community; they are continuously upgrading their skills, conducting research studies, and developing new bariatric resources to advance the science of medical obesity management.
