Weight Loss Surgery Quality Standards

Keeping our standards high to meet yours.

Quality ratings should allow consumers to find the best weight loss surgery program—that means finding the best healthcare with the best outcomes. But quality standards may be measured on a scale from 1–10, 1–100, or one star to five stars. If you don’t know the actual measurement tool, it’s difficult to translate the award into a quality standard. We subscribe to several of the most prestigious rating systems and earn honors with each.

Measuring quality outcomes for bariatric surgery includes rating infection, bleeding, readmission, re-operation and mortality rates. We believe there should be more to quality than just the usual ratings. We also strive to provide an efficient process so we make the most of your time. We want to be known for the best-educated and prepared weight loss surgery patients, and we want you to experience a warm, friendly place that makes you feel comfortable.

“Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program” Accredited

This designation is given to sites with a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program that also demonstrate a commitment to the highest level of clinical care. Both the Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital and our physicians are certified by the MBSAQIP. One of the criteria for MBSAQIP accreditation is completing a high volume of procedures per year. Medical literature has shown that sites that perform more surgeries have more consistent outcomes with fewer complications. Our program is considered to be one of the highest volume centers in the nation.

“5 Star” HealthGrades
Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award

HealthGrades uses required California State hospital reporting information and then applies a risk adjusted methodology to place hospitals into three categories: Best (5 star), Average (3 Star), and Poor (1 star). Fresno Bariatrics has always been rated “5 Star,” which is approximately the top 20 percent of hospitals.

“2012 HealthGrades Outstanding
Patient Experience Award”

HealthGrades uses a 27-question survey given to patients by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
In 2012, we earned the award for a fifth
year in row and ranked in the top 5% nationally. There is only one other hospital in California that shares this distinction.

“Beacon Award for Excellence” American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Our ICU nursing staff has demonstrated continuous learning and effective systems
to achieve optimal patient care. Our core principals are demonstrated throughout
the system.

Additionally, although it is rare that a bariatric patient would ever need intensive care, it is important to note that we are considered one of the top ICUs in our area.
